Which Halo Sealer should I use?

Which one of Halo Surface Sealers you should use will depend on the answers to several questions.

They include these questions:

1.  Do I want the sealer to be visible or not?

2.  Do I want the substrate enhanced?

2.  Do I wish to use the sealer as an undercoat for another Halo product?

3.  What is the substrate?

4.  Do I want or need to use a solvent or water-based product?

There are 4 Halo Surface Sealers:

Halo SV Enhancer Plus Sealer

Halo WB Enhancer Blue Sealer

Halo WB Multi-surface Sealer

Halo WB Polished Stone Sealer

We have a new system of names to help you know whether the product is solvent or water-based.

It’s simple and we hope it is helpful:

all solvent products will have the letters SV after Halo and all the water-based products will have the letters WB

The characteristics of each of the 4 surface sealers are:

Halo SV Enhancer Plus Sealer:

1.   It is visible.

2.   It enhances the substrate.

3.   It can be a topcoat in its own right.  It does not have the strength and durability of a coating, but it will protect against moisture, mould and food and acid stains.  It is very easy and quick to apply so if time is an issue it is ideal.  It should be chosen as a topcoat if a level of protection less than a coating is required and/or the look of a coating is not desired.

4.   It dries/flashes off in less than 5 minutes.  For this reason it is also a perfect undercoat for any of the coatings when the substrate is porous and needs to be sealed.

5.   It is ideal for almost all porous surfaces such as concrete, natural and artificial stone, unglazed tiles, masonry products and stucco and concrete roofing tiles.

6.   It is solvent-based.

Halo WB Enhancer Blue Sealer

1.   It is visible.

2.   It enhances the substrate.

3.   It is a topcoat.  It does not have the strength and durability of a coating, but it will protect against moisture, mould and food and acid stains.  It is slightly “softer” than its solvent cousin Halo SV Enhancer Plus Sealer.  It takes about 15 minutes to dry.  It cannot be used as an undercoat for Halo SV coatings.

4.   It is ideal for almost all porous surfaces such as concrete, natural and artificial stone, unglazed tiles, masonry products and stucco and concrete roofing tiles.

5.   It is water-based.  Use it when a solvent-based product is either not-allowed or not-preferred.  An ideal use for this product is on garden paths and garden furniture where the substrate is to be enhanced but it is important that plants, soil and animals are not affected.

Halo WB Multi-surface Sealer

1.   It is invisible.

2.   It protects the substrate from moisture intrusion and stains and stops the growth of mould and moss – but you don’t know it’s there.

3.   It is a topcoat.  NO OTHER HALO PRODUCT WILL ADHERE TO IT.

4.   It is ideal for almost all porous surfaces such as concrete, natural and artificial stone, unglazed tiles and masonry products.  Use it on heritage buildings and garden paths where no enhancement is desired.

5.   It is water-based.

Halo WB Polished Stone Sealer

1.   It is almost invisible when it is dry.

2.   It slightly enhances polished surfaces – but not by much.

3.   It is a topcoat.  NO OTHER HALO PRODUCT WILL ADHERE TO IT.

4.   It is for polished natural stone and provides resistance to water and stains – it won’t protect against acid-etching on calcium-based stones.  Use it on polished stone when you don’t want the look of a coating or need the protection and when you want to use a water-based product.

5.   It is water-based.
